      Prosecco Lamarca NV, Conegliano-Valdobbiadene, Italy
With the escalating price of real Champagne, it is wonderful to find top quality alternatives, like this one, well under the $20 price. A solid honey base is splashed with rich fruit flavors. Tastes of apple peel, apricots, yellow plum, and tangerine are layered, playing off the creamy texture. Spicy tones of white pepper and fresh sliced ginger root are reflected in the lively bubbles. Plenty of pazzaz for the price.

      Lindauer Brut NV, New Zealand
This blend of chardonnay and pinot has a delightful complexity with singing acidity. A bright mouthfeel is overcome by flavors of apples, ginger, lime zest, and sour cherries. Creaminess developes on the tongue as the acidity declines. A touch of yeastiness with a touch of honey and grapefruit grows on the finish. Palate cleansing dryness is complemented by ripe fruit flavors.

Cara Mia NV IGT Spumante, Italy
A bubbly blend of pinot bianco and prosecco grapes. Aromas of honeysuckle, gingersnaps and fresh baked biscuits escape the glass, disguised as snapping carbonation. A rich canvas of green apples, pineapple, and tangerine marry with refreshing citrus acidity. Yeasty tones sweep the mouth on the finish, with a dash of cardomom and ground ginger. Cara Mia means 'my love' in Italian. A great bottle to bring home on a whim.

Domaine Ste Michelle NV Blancs de Blanc, Columbia Valley, Washington
Bright and zesty, this delightful sparkling wine is a great value for the money. A touch of yeastiness and white flowers shows on the nose. Fine mousse leads to flavors of lime, ginger, pineapple, and poached pear. The acidity is bracing, but the ripeness balances the mouthwatering sensations. Golden clarity creates a celebratory hue.

Love the creamy nose on this little sparkling number. Golden color exudes flavors of poached pear, toasted yeasty tones, and freshly grated ginger root. Tastes of flan and caramel hint at some old oak barrels, while the finish has a lively flinty snap. Create a Latin theme and pop this cork for dramatic effect.

      Mionetto NV Organic Prosecco Conegliano-Valdobbiadene
A fine mousse tops a pale golden color. The scents remind one of peach blossoms and cardomom bread. The sparkling wine has ample exotic fruit flavors. Prominent persimon and wedding cake flavors lavish the tongue. Its acidity is bright with tones of kiwi and starfruit. There is a rich, toasty, creamy sensation on the finish, rounding out the experience. The word special came to mind when I sampled this delightful bubbly.

Gran Gesta NV Brut Reserva Cava, Penedes, Spain
Champagne processes are used to make this little sparkler. It is bright, fresh, and perfect for celebrations. Yeasty aromas, like those from a bakery, escape the glass as the tiny bubbles burst. In the mouth, flavors of apples, pear, peach, and mineral tickle the tongue with a carbonated revelry. The finish offers a hint of honey. This is a great bottle to keep on hand. The label is regal looking and the wine is impressive for the money. Let them think you broke the bank.

      Ricossa Brachetto
A sticky, sexy blend of casorzo and malvasia nera. This unusual red sparkling wine has a dollop of residual sugar, but offers a rich complexity. Freshly sliced oranges evolve into a ripe red raspberry tone, showing a savory pucker of lime on the tip of the tongue. The finish expands with distinct flavors of milk chocolate. A fabulously fun wine with a demure 5.5% alcohol.
